Hang on, Majel Barrett died? Oh man, I didn't even notice. That sucks. Oh, and.... You know Captain, every year I become more convinced that the wisest and best is to focus on the good and the beautiful...
He learned almost too late that man is a feeling creature... and because of it, the greatest in the universe. He learned too late for himself that men have to find their own way, to make their own mistakes. There can't be any gift of perfection from outside ourselves. And when men seek such perfection... they find only death... fire... loss... disillusionment... the end of everything that's gone forward. Men have always sought an end to the toil and misery, but it can't be given, it has to be achieved. There is hope, but it has to come from inside, from Man himself.

The only people who showed up at the theaters for the four next gen movies were the hardcore trek fans who would watch a dog taking a dump if it had Patrick Steward or William Shatner in it. The franchise either had to reboot or die. Look at it this way at least they did it in a way that left the old shows and movies alone,no one is pretending they never happened.
Also this movie was the best summer movie this year so i don't think it turned out to bad,I can't wait for the 17th.
This sort of reminds me of when Doctor Who came back and section of the fan base claimed that it wasn't "real Who" and people who liked it were not "real fans".
There is always a shock when a franchise comes back from the dead,i remember when people claimed that TNG was not "real Star Trek".

I was 2 but there were still Star Trek fans who felt that way when i was a kid and when my family got internet access in 96 you could still find whole websites devoted to bashing the spin off series and movies.

Well now, it seems I might be going to a screening of The Room. Depends if I can get the night off of work.

A local theatre does a screening every couple of months. I need to go one of these times.

I'm mildly stunned there's been no impotent rage thread about the "reboot" of Mickey Mouse... dare I hope people have realized things are often updated for a new generation?
