Windows 7 is up and running. Don't really like the new taskbar, but I can get used to it. Now I have to go about reinstalling everything and adding my files back. This may be a while...
There are workarounds for that taskbar. I for one will not be using it; I fucking hate the "stacking icons of same type" feature as well and eliminate that whenever it's on. Oh, I actually got it changed back to something that resembles the old one. Just have to change it to use small icons. It still actually lists each window separately now, but also joins the together if you want to move them on the taskbar.

Maybe someone here can help me on this one:
A couple months ago, I decided it was a crime and a travesty that I should be playing my awesome games on anything less than a widescreen HD monitor. I picked myself up a nice one for a good price (An acer brand if it matters) and I've been thrilled with it.
When I first got it, it would stretch the image whenever I was playing an older game. Since I spend a lot of time playing old LucasArts games (And even a few newer games that aren't widescreen) I decided I'd rather see the black bars on the sides of the screen and see my older games in their original aspect ratio. I remember doing SOMETHING and making it so it would detect what type of game I was playing and adjust the screen accordingly. Widescreen games showed up in widescreen, and older games had the black bars.
Then I did SOMETHING and messed it up, so it's stretching everything out again. I've tried lots of things to get it to display the way I want, and lightning hasn't struck twice. Does anyone know what the name of the option I'm looking for is, and where I set it? Is it an option in the monitor's internal menu, or something I set on my PC?

It suppose it depends on what graphics card you have. What I do is I just go into the NVIDIA Control Panel under Display --> Adjust Desktop Size and Position and choose scale with fixed aspect ratio. It might also be in your monitor's internal menu, just look for scaling options.

Don't forget a CPU fan and heat sink. Something from Zalman for preference. I have one that I can manually adjust the fan speed. It works really well. In any case, make sure you find one with a low decibel/high airflow rating. Also, a couple of fans for the case would be good. At least one in front and one in back. You might be able to use the ones from your old case. endpcnoise.com

Both of my hard drives just failed on me. ALL of my important data was lost. Everything.. Instead of crying about it, i decided to make the most out of it. This seems as good a time as any to get a new setup, and step away for the 3 year old Dell. So i mulled over the possibilities, and went to newegg.com, and tried to setup an new system. Check it, and let me know if i might be missing something.:
With those 3 hard drives you'll want to either install them with an empty slot in between them or have a fan blowing over them (or both). People forget how warm hard drives get while running, stack them together and they overheat. Looks like there's a lot of drive slots in the case but it doesn't look like there's room for a front fan. I like larger cases so you can spread stuff out and they usually have lots of places to put extra fans. If you are not overclocking the fan and heat sink that come with the CPU should do to start, then monitor the temperatures and see if you need to upgrade.

Sorry to hear that. Coping with the loss of loved data is hard.
I'd sign up with some sort of online backup service. AmandaGal turned me on to MozyHome backup. It's $5.95 a month for unlimited storage. Pretty easy to set up and use. I haven't had to do any restores yet, but all my data appears to be up there on the Mozy services.

Why can't you just 'wipe' it and load XP on it OR are we back to the 'F@*# Bill Gates' thing again?

Even if it could it probably has some physical damage that would allow it to work until it hits the sector that is damaged. Then blue screen all over again Its black friday tho. You could pick up a better PC for 200$ with Windows Xp already loaded in. (Make sure its pro)
