Necro Thread... Back From The Dead!
I've recently found myself with the most frustrating new Sony receiver. Even though there are three HDMI inputs, none of them actually supply sound to the speakers! This means that for each connection, i would have to hook up separate audio cables. But here's the next glitch... there are only two Optical and one Coaxial digital audio inputs. What the hell?
In addition, any component that's not hooked up via the HDMI ports (like my Wii for example, which is Composite) will not display via the HDMI output. So that means that i would have to hook the audio to the receiver, and the video directly to the TV. Again... what the hell?
The stressful part is that this was a birthday gift from the girlfriend. I don't know if i should suck it up and buy a shitload of cables to patch my system together the best i can. Or, should i try to explain to her that her present was kinda'... not the best, and broach the subject of exchanging it for something that's going to be a lot more expensive?

Sounds like the delima I had when I bought a 32" Vizio for my new bedroom addition and had the same problem cause my receiver is older and has no HDMI connections so instead of spending money for cables and a receiver, I just dealt with TV sound from the TV speakers only and rigged up surround sound for the DVD player using the RCA audio connections..

I think the HDMI connections should be Optional and not a 'Forced to change over to' type setup!
