Well, I've now joined the ranks of the unemployed. What I thought was going to be a winter vacation is apparently indefinite joblessness. My employer left it a bit open as to whether they'd be needing my services any time in the future, so now I find myself needing another job. One that doesn't travel too much. I love traveling myself . . . my wife, not so much on the me traveling thing. Which for a guy with less than a year of data entry experience and a lot of driving experience (non-CDL) rules out a lot of possibilities. Which leaves me shooting in the dark in a room with very few targets to begin with.
Man, that Sux! Ya'know, if your decent with numbers, maybe you can get on at a income tax office.. I've hired 4 girls that are bilingual (cause our target market is Spanish-speaking clients) and good with numbers and proficient on a computer for tax season.. Just a thought I'm okay with numbers . . . Not so much with the bilingual, though. Which is becoming more and more of a handicap here in Texas. Most tax offices deal with 'everyday' English speaking America so maybe H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt could have an opening.. Being bilingual is necessary for my branch of income tax preperation and not real common anyway..

Should try getting a job in South Florida where you have to be bilingual even if the job isn't dealing with the public because they pay so poorly in other parts of the business that they can only get "recent arrivals" who don't speak English. And I'd look into tax preparation but I'm now going into 16 weeks waiting for Unemployment to decide whether or not I'm going to collect benefits, I'm not interested in any job that I know is temporary. Not going through this again willingly.

Not so much a "RRARGH!" as more of a shrug and an "oh well". My latest story submission was rejected today: the editor felt that it was overwritten and tried too hard to be jokey. I think he's probably right in that it's a little too complicated in terms of the writing, and with another draft, I could probably streamline the jokes too. Besides, "Onward Christian Soldier" is probably going to be funnier that "Good Kind Wensceslaus". Either that or To be a Pilgrim. I liked the story

Fine, you want to pay so little that the only people you can get for those jobs are people who have to take anything that's offered. But, why does everyone in the freaking place have to be able to speak to them to get a job there? Have the manager of that department be bilingual and the office can deal with the department through that person. No, make language the one and only most important thing when it comes to hiring and therefore risk having to hire someone who isn't as good as everyone else at the actual job.

At a time like this when people are out of work the government is spending $168 million on a one day party next week.
Do you know what they could do with that money if they weren't trying to make next week a big hollywood movie?!
Heck most Hollywood movies are cheaper then that?!
If you put that money into a movie you would at least given 300 people work for a year.
it's shouldn't even cost $1 million to swear someone into office!
When is the government going to learn that it is our money not theirs?!

You're one of those people who wanted to cancel Thanksgiving and Christmas after 9-11, aren't you? That kind of money is a drop in the bucket compared to what this administration spent and wasted - especially the war debt that isn't on the budget deficit. We need this party - even if we aren't personally going. To celebrate the fact that history is being made with Obama taking office and because President Dumbshit is finally going!!! You want to be upset about something, listen to the Dry Drunk tonight. Listen to him pat himself on the back about all the "good work" he did. I still say if he wants to take credit for "keeping America safe" from terrorists since 9-11 he only gets that if he takes the blame for not stopping the 9-11 attack in the first place....but not until then.

So in other words when Bush waists money it makes him a dumass when Obama does it it's ok because he is on your side and he is black.
So Obama can do everything the same way as Bush and you will still support him.
Yeah that is real fair and the color of someone's skin shouldn't matter when it comes to anything.
This is just reverse racism and it is just as wrong as racism.
Also your point of view only makes sense if you believe that only your point of view counts.
Believe it or not Obama is not perfect and people have a right to question him.
this proves you never believed in questioning Bush because of issues you just wanted more power for your side.
Hey if you want to give away all of your money to pay for this thing good ahead i don't see why i should be forced to pay for Obama's party when he and all his friends that are going to be there are super rich and my uncle is out of work and there are no jobs.
The Governer of Delaware isn't having a party because there is no money.
If Obama does care why doesn't he just get sworn in and get to work helping the poor?
Bush fucked everything up money wise that is why we can;t spend any more, you don't fix your debt by spending huge wads of cash.
We don't need a $168 million ego trip next week.

No tax payer is paying for the party. Unless they want to. The party is paid for from donor contributions. The Taxpayer pays for the swearing in ceremony and the security but the majority of the celebration is paid for via voluntary contributions and that's the way it has always been, regardless of who the president is..

But then again could the donors use this money to help the people.
The same moral rule we apply to big corps should apply to our leaders.
Our leaders need to lead they need to show corprate big wigs that they don't have to spend money like a drunk, you can just do your job with out spending insane amounts of money.

Funny that's not any of your stances when it's a big corperation doing what it wants with it's money.
If i were Obama I would turn this money down and just get to work.
That would show the bosses in this country how things should be done and he would win a lot of people over.
win win except for his ego.
