Do as he says, not as he does. A correct hypocrite is still correct.

This is true. And a reptile attempting to pass off a presidential campaign ad as a "documentary" is still a reptile.

Don't be disrespectful. The noble gecko serves a purpose in nature; Al Gore, not so much...

By the way, have you noticed that the Geico Gecko has gone from the more "proper" British accent he started out with to the more "working class" one he has now?

From a while back in 'movie title parody' thread, deep within the 'board games' forum, by yours truly.........

This is a story about Al. As a retired politician, he's tried his best to stay active. He had thought to return to one of his first loves, protecting the environment.  He even helped to direct and star in a documentary to warn the public of his findings.  But Al has a problem.  He's decidedly dull, as stiff, boring and wooden as any tree in the forest.  Still, with a desire as unmovable as said trees, he struggles with the means to produce yet another film to hopefully alert people to the dangers we all will face.  This is a story that follows him in his attempts to secure financial backing for his next environmental opus. Come and marvel at just how far one man will go, and to what bizarre links he will go to accomplish his goals.  Be astonished as he becomes aware of a voice apparently narrating his every move, as well as perplexed  to witness his coming to the conclusion that it is in fact the spirit of the mother earth herself, Gaea, trying to communicate with him, rather that the musings of a film school student working on his class project....

That thing has changed accents at least twice, if not three times. I think he started with an American accent. I find these changes very disturbing. It's like getting a new actor to play the same character.

Do they keep wanting to appeal to different audiences, or does the voice guy demand more money so they let him go? Enquiring minds want to know!

I'm just glad someone else noticed.

Climate Skeptics See 'Smoking Gun' in Researchers' Leaked E-Mails

Friday, November 20, 2009

Hackers broke into the servers at a prominent British climate research center and leaked years worth of e-mail messages onto the Web, including one with a mysterious reference to a plan to "hide the decline," apparently in temperatures.

The Internet is abuzz about the leaked data from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (commonly called Hadley CRU), which has acknowledged the theft of 61MB of confidential data.

Climate change skeptics describe the leaked data as a "smoking gun," evidence of collusion among climatologists and manipulation of data to support the widely held view that climate change is caused by the actions of mankind. The files were reportedly released on a Russian file-serve by an anonymous poster calling himself "FOIA."

In an exclusive interview in Investigate magazine's TGIF Edition, Phil Jones, the head of the Hadley CRU, confirmed that the leaked data is real.

"It was a hacker. We were aware of this about three or four days ago," he told the magazine, noting that the center has yet to contact the police about the data breach.

TGIF Edition asked Jones about the controversial "hide the decline" comment from an e-mail he wrote in 1999. He told the magazine that there was no intention to mislead, but he had "no idea" what he meant by those words.

"That was an e-mail from ten years ago. Can you remember the exact context of what you wrote ten years ago?" he said.

The Telegraph has posted some of the more scathing excerpts from these emails, which the newspaper suggests points to manipulation of evidence and private doubts about the reality of global warming, though the much of the scientific language in the e-mails is esoteric and hard to interpret.

Others suggest the comments are simply "scientists talking about science." In an interview with Wired, Kevin Trenberth, head of the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, points out that "if you read all of these e-mails, you will be surprised at the integrity of these scientists."

Still, one notable e-mail from the hacked files clearly describes how to squeeze dissenting scientists from the peer review process:

"I think we have to stop considering Climate Research as a legitimate peer-reviewed journal. Perhaps we should encourage our colleagues in the climate research community to no longer submit to, or cite papers in, this journal. We would also need to consider what we tell or request of our more reasonable colleagues who currently sit on the editorial board…What do others think?"

I'm gonna go outside and celebrate by burning some plastics and styrofoams in my outdoor fire place, and 'enlarge' my carbon foot print  Tongue

the article's description of that paragraph makes no sense. what it says is "this journal is crap, we should stop dealing with it".

Yeah, they haven't verified that everything in that leaked data is legit yet, but if so, it looks pretty bad for some of the Climate Chicken Littles of the world.

Wouldn't exactly come as a big surprise to me.

I was always skeptical.. I mean, The world was a Hell of a lot warmer back in the dinosaurs' days and yeah there was a lot of volcanic activity going on, but unless the Dinosaurs had a lot of ass gas being produced, I think this is just a natural occurring event in Earths geologic history and I saw somewhere recently that climate change was occurring when there was more or less activity on the Sun so yeah - It's a Communist plot purpotrated by Al Gore and his cronies  Roll Eyes

It's a sure sign that you're delving into things you don't know too much about. I know I don't, that's why I don't talk about it so I don't look like a jackass.

No one does; But I've got a good bit of Geology research melded in my History degree so I'd say I have a bit more insight on the matter, but in all honesty, not even the 'Global Warming' supporters know what they're really talking about but it makes for Great movements and they haven't looked much better IMO..
Finding ways to curb our use of fossil fuels is a good thing, but no matter what, the ice will melt and sea levels will rise with or without our intervention.

A couple interesting reads on the matter..
