(whips out trusty Absolut Watchmen) They were called the Minutemen, but I can understand why they'd change it, as there isn't any group named the Watchmen and it could be confusing in the condensed format of film. And Dollar Bill's being played by Dan Payne.
The Minutemen are still there (as in the Old Comedian, Hooded Justice, and that bunch) in their original form (there's some pics online of the old group picture being taken). I know the knew group called themselves the Watchmen at some point (it may have been a conversation between Nite Owl and the Comedian when they were stopping the rioters), but not sure if the name stuck (I know the Crimebusters didn't work out). Mind you, I haven't seen the trailer in a bit, so I may be mixing up things here from what you mean. Apologies if so. And I keep hearing stuff about the new ending, ranging from it sucks to it's not actually the ending, just a phony one put into the test screenings to fool audiences.

To be honest I am not concerned about the if that's the biggest change then the movie has done pretty well.
Basically it really just has to be, there is room for a little alteration to how that is done. But we will see.

By the way, now that we've heard the other characters besides Rorsh speak, any thoughts?
I'm glad they didn't go all Lawrence Fishbourn with Manhattan, trying to make him sound epic and godlike. It would have been the predicatable course.
As for Silk Spectre- In the comic she was a worn out wreck for most of it, on the edge of breakdown. I know that's not gonna nessesarily fly in a film where she's the only female character of note, but I DO hope they give her some actual emotions throughout. Sexy's not as hard to find out there as depth.

I'm looking forward to it, but then I often feel I'm one of very few internet movie geeks that has perspective.

Manhattan sounds like a grown-up Doug Funnie; Rorschach sounds like I liked the trailer. Of all the things to change, I don't so much mind them calling their crime fighting team "The Watchmen" or whatever. It's just a name, its not like the plot of the movie's been changed really. As for the ending, I'm with Bathtub. I don't need the ending to be a frame-for-frame remake, I just need to have the same point as the original. Did they use a song from Koyanisqaatsi?

Yep. The same one used in the Grand Theft Auto IV trailer. I dunno; I'm really not excited at all about the movie. I have no problem with them changing anything to make it work as a movie, but I do have a problem with the director and how vacuous and over-stylistic he is. About the only thing that I kinda don't like that they changed is Nite Owl's being in shape. I liked that he had become a real schleb. I still think they should have gone with a really intellectual director. Of course, I haven't seen it yet, so maybe (hopefully) I'll be totally blown away and have to eat my words.

Something tells me you wouldn't like the Ang Lee version.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I also noticed the trailer for 2012 had some music from the Shining. Nice that they are getting away from the usual musical trailer fair, but I don't want those to tunes to become cliches.

Any look at the film so far would show they have gone to huge lengths to stay very close to the source material, I think they are doing a good job. Hey it could still suck, over doing the slo-mo in the trailer, I hope that's not so prominent in the final film.
