Photographic proof of the movie comics fans thought could never be made:

Yup, it's Rorshach from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen, or more specifically, Zach "300" Snyder's upcoming film adaptation. Good luck, Zach. Follow the link for hi-res.

I don't think any of the parts are cast yet, well publically anyway,... Tom Cruise was up for Ozy at one point. However that is just a test image not from actual filming.

As Bathtub said, none of the parts have been officially cast, but the very creepy David Caruso does seem spot-on for Rorschach.

I'm praying they do it as a mini-series and not a film. Please please please please PLEASE don't try and cut Watchmen down to two hours....

*sniff*

(David Caruso as Rorshach FTW)

I think someone with a supportive studio could make a decent Watchmen movie clocking in around 3 hours. Is Zach Snyder that guy? I realy don't know. Then again, I don't worship Watchmen the way some people do. I think it's a great story, and its influence is undeniable, but I've enjoyed other comics stories, even other Alan Moore stories, more. I see plenty of stuff that you could reasonably cut from the book for which some geeks would scream bloody murder. Regardless, I don't envy anyone the task of adapting Watchmen. Wait, who am I kidding? I'd love to take a crack at it.

Honestly Watchmen is great but so many people forget how easily many of the things in the comic can be told with a good director...I believe a very honest and well done version of Watchmen could be made with a run time of two and a half hours.

Also when Watchmen comes out....it will signify the death of the Golden Age of Comic book movies....

As much as I love to see my favorite characters on the big screen, if that means higher quality control for comic adaptations, so be it.

How about some more casting suggestions?

Wow, that's a good casting. Dennis Farina is a very inspired choice.

You know, in my head, Nite Owl was always cast as Adam West for some reason. :^)

Rorshach - David Caruso
Doctor Manhattan - Gerard Butler

I really can't see Gerard Butler as Dr. Manhattan - not cerebral and aloof enough. He should be creepy as hell. Billy Zane maybe? He creeps me out.

Nite Owl - Kurt Russel

I like Kurt Russell as Nite Owl, if he can play up the worminess. He's still the macho manly man in my mind.

Silk Spectre - Jennifer Connely

I could see that. I remember Wizard suggesting Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order: SVU as the Silk Spectre. I thought that was pretty good, but knowing Hollywood, everyone will be 15 years or more younger than they should.

Ozymandias - Robert Redford
The Comedian - Dennis Farina

Interesting, but I think Redford and Farina are a little too old. Remember, Adrian Vedit's still in top physical condition. I hate to say it but, Val Kilmer as Ozymandias? I always saw the Comedian as Tom Berenger. He even played a rather similar character in Platoon. I dunno how he's held up over the years, though.

This is always so fun.

Billy Zane is cerebral?  I'd pick Dwayne Johnson personally but I figure Gerard's got the build and he's already worked with Zach,

Tom Berenger - 31 May 1949
Dennis Farina - 29 February 1944

The Rock? The Rock is Doctor Manhattan? An detached nuclear scientist who was accidently taken outside the physical realm and returned with god-like powers should be played by The Rock? Huh

=?

As opposed to The Phantom playing him? I'd pick Rocky over Billy Zane.

Matthew Fox or Djimon Hounsou could be okay I suppose.
