So I'm not the only one that has thought about this. I brought it up to my friend's a while ago, so I've already got my stance thought out.
I like Twenty-ten. Sounds more Sci-fi that way. Plus, even though none of us will live that long, once it gets to 2100 it'll make that transition a lot smoother. I'd hate to be saying two thousand, one hundred one, two, etc. for the year.

I wondered that about this decade, back in 1999. I didn't really figure it out until 2000 rolled around and I was forced to make a choice.
Today I refer to 2000 as "2000", 2001 as "oh-one", 2002 as "oh-two" and so on. I'm not sure what to call the decade as a whole though. "The 'aughts" sounds totally 19th century. I usually hear this decade referred to as "the new millenium", which sounds a little better. Will the next decade be called "the teens"? That sounds weird, because it sounds like a show on the WB the CW. The decades after that... "the 20's", "the 30's", "the 40's".... will those ever escape their current association with the 1920's, then 1930's, and the 1940's?
Anyway, I'll probably go with calling next year "HOLY SHIT IT'S 2010! OMG FUTURE!"

im going for 2010, that is the way that i always thought of saying it. Two Thousand and Ten just seems to long for me. so im going to be lazy and just say twenty-ten.

Yeah, I'm not really concerned with what I call the year (though I'm one of the two thousand ten losers). I'm more concerned with what to call the actual decade. The tens? Because only 2013 on would be the teens. |

Drop the (and) part, and i'll just be saying "two thousand ten". Just seems correct for me after referring to "The Year 2000" for so long. To drop the phrase "two thousand" would be such a waste. No matter what year it is, the term "two thousand" will always represent the distant future to me.
That's why the (and) was in parentheses--I didn't figure it warranted a separate entry for Two Thousand Ten when it's really the same thing as Two Thousand And Ten (just a shortcut). Grammatically and functionally it's the same. |
