Just saw an ad for the mini-series of The Prisoner remake. Looks kinda interesting. Haven't gotten to the original series yet in my Netflix queue, but I'd be interested to see what people who have seen it think of the new one.

I'm curious about this as the original series STILL holds up today. Great leading man with a sensibility that still works in 2009.
I dont want to cut anyone down without watching it, but they have a LOT to live up to.

This does look interesting. It's nice to see that they kept the anti-escape orbs.
Plus, Ian McKellan slumming to do TV. Nice.
Too bad they got Jesus to play the lead.

OK, Promo: Fairly long trailer: OK, looks fairly good, I get the impression that the back story for Number Six is different. Number Two looks to be fairly fun.

Yeah, I'll be watching for Sir Ian, not Caviezel.

Good. Not every show needs to run 10 seasons.

Patrick McGoohan originally wanted his The Prisoner to run only seven episodes. The studio managed to wring seventeen out of him. Given the strain the concept showed at times during the added ten, it likely would have been a bad idea to go much beyond that number. So yes, another vote for a short series.
As for this remake, I am ... ambivalent. I doubt they can match the creativity of the original, or avoid becoming Anvilicious in their message delivery. But if they do make it work, this could be so good.

I need to see the original just because it led to Iron Maiden's greatest song. The Prisoner for those of you who aren't up the irons.

OK bit of a Parson's Egg really. I liked: - Number 2 - He could have fit in as yet another "New Number Two" in the original. I rather think we'll not be seeing that part of Number 2 in this version though.
- Little touches like the wrap sandwiches and the vehicle choices (Mini Mokes would be fairly difficult to get I'm thinking).*
- The Rover is still pretty great as a deterrent while being just a big old balloon.
I found a bit feh: - Number 6 - amnesiac and emotional < Bolshie and Bloody Minded, oh and don't tell us what he did,fer gawd's sake.
- Dr. Duckface, she's a bit odd and not in the way of the village.
Actually I was thinking that the actor they should have had do this instead of Caviezel is that Michael Vartan bloke from Alias since it would have sort of had an echo of Danger Man to it. Then Ann told me his character karked it at the end of Alias (I don't know; I only watched that show whenever Gina Torres was on, never actually followed the story all that closely). * EDIT: Or maybe the producers missed a trick in getting their vehicle budget picked up by an outside supplier.

I think I need to watch it! I've been away recording iRiffs and might begin a marathon session tonight once the kids are in bed.
