...was never born and we got the woman who wrote, 'Twilight,' instead.

Obsoive:

Titanic: About a "fat" teen girl, with a mother who is stuffy and a non-existant father, who meets a man-child who she falls in love with who changes her life forever.

Twilight:  About a "plain" teen girl, with a mother who is loopy and a practically non-existant father, who meets a perpetual "teen" who she falls in love with who changes her life.

Both girls are at first paired with another guy who they seem to be better with.

Both movies end with the couple at a soiree (sp?).

Both girls can't wait to get naked for their guy.

Both the lead guys are gentlemen....in that one doesn't kill the heroine and we don't really much know the other one....

Nobody, LEAST OF ALL THE MOTHERS OF THE GIRLS, 'get' the teen.

etc....

I hate movies that pander....

Amen brother....

I am a female.

And, most oddly coincidental: the "teen" in both is named, "Mary Sue."  OOOOOH!!  Creepy.

I mean, she can't spit, so, isn't it quirky and fun that this feminine looking man-child teaches her to spit?  And, also, she can't spit, but, she can drink, like the Irish, she's just so down to earth!!!  AND, look at how she impresses people with her ballet moves (which is impossible sans pointe shoes); she INSTANTLY wins their respect and admiration with that.  Oh!  Look at how she's progressing!  The common people love her, but, after all, she is common....just like the mindless teen girl watching this!!!!

Oh yeah, and, both movies have a feminine looking "safe" lead guy.

I have been watching this movie with the riff for two nights and i am only an hour and a half into it.  The riff is really good but i think it may take me three or four more nights to finish it.  What does this have to do with this thread?  It's taking me the same amount of time to finish Titanic it did to finish Twilight.

How did this movie win so many awards again?

Most of the awards it won were BS technical awards.   Yes, this movie won for best sound and editing.    Really?    Best "sound"..... how on earth do you judge that?     And a three hour movie had no editing, so how did it win that?

I think the nominators and the nominees both have some deep technical criteria that nobody outside the field would really understand.  The discussions of who should win would probably sound like Greek to any normal person.

Didn't this movie also win Best Picture and a best acting professional award or something?

Am I the only person here who actually liked this movie? This is one of my favorite riffs, not only because it's a great riff (one of the best in fact), but also because I actually like watching this movie. And yes, I'm male. The last two I've been watching recently are I Am Legend and Drag Me to Hell. They're both WAY more painful to watch than Titanic, or even Twilight.

I particularly hated Drag Me to Hell (surprisingly good riff though), but I hate horror movies in general. Almost entirely because they usually center on girls being hurt, which infuriates me.

I will say though; this movie winning for best editing and best score is a joke.

It was an okay movie.  I'd watch it on my own maybe once every five years.  Which is more than I'd watch I Am Legend or Drag Me to Hell on my own in my entire lifetime. LMFAO

I didn't hate it or like it.  I found the extreme length to be a major negative factor.

Well, Jacob seems nice. But Cal looks like a real dick.

And of those, I notice that Best Screenplay isn't one of them. Surprise, surprise.
