Mr.B you're hot!

« on: February 17, 2009, 08:17:35 AM »

This is the first upload by me, Mr.B.Natural, and it's finally available here: http://www.rifftrax.com/iriffs/atomic-rulers-world  It hasn't been easy getting it done and I'd like to know if it's something I should keep working at.  At this point I'm too close to it to tell if it's funny and I can't trust those close to me so let's hear what you guys think.  I've been told that the inherit lack of availablity of the film itself may hurt my sales so I thought I would mention that I obtained my copy of the film from Mill Creek's "Nightmare World's 50 Movie Pack."  I intend to draw from this pack many times so one could consider it an investment in future Mr.B. riffs and, what's more, it's loaded with tons of good/bad movies rife for your own riffing or just enjoying.

Hmm.  That's a very inexpensive package of some pretty bad-looking movies, and I see there's also a "SciFi Classics 50 Movie Pack" and a "Horror Classics 50 Movie Pack" which are also pretty cheap ($15 to $30 for each package of 50 movies).  Perhaps some other iRiffers could take on some of the other movies in these packages, the same way different iRiffing groups are doing the "Lost City" serial.

I haven't seen any of these collections yet, but it's cheap enough that I'm willing to get one and see.  It's also amusing to see that these sets seem to include the original versions of several movies which showed up in the MST3k line-up, so we know they're good and cheesy!   Cheesy  The reviews at amazon do indicate that the video/audio quality for some of these is low, but there still might be enough which are watchable enough to make riffing them fun.

I just found out (I feel a little embarrassed for not knowing this) the movies featured in the 50 Pack are public domain movies so one should be able to make VODs for them without fear of legal action.  I will soon upload a VOD for my Atomic Rulers iriff.  Also, if anyone has seen my riff, how about a little feedback eh?

Well, I've bought your iRiff, but the movie-collection DVD hasn't arrived in the mail yet.  It should be showing up soon, though.

There's also a 250 pack that collects most of the films from all the various horror and sci-fi 50 packs.

Can you really just take the movies from the those packs and use them for VOD's?   The films in the 250 pack periodically have a "Mill Creek Entertainment" watermark popup on them so I would think reusing them would be a problem.

I guess I'm not 100% sure if you can.  I will investigate the matter further but all sources say that the films featured in the packs are in the public domain and therefore we can do whatever we like with them.

Most of the time, as I understand it, you can use them if you find a source, such as archive.org, that has them available for free use. However, in the case of something like this Mill Creek release, I don't know if it would be allowed. MCE could argue that you are taking their version, identified by the watermark, and profiting from it. Another example would be the Legend Films releases of NOTLD and the like; even though it's public domain film, you can't use their colorized version because they've altered it in some manner (namely, they colored it). So you may want to hold off on making a VOD until you can find a version that hasn't been altered, enhanced, or changed in any manner.

It wasn't easy but I've finally  managed to create a VOD for my iriff of Atomic Rulers that does not offend copywright law.  Yeah for me!

I know I promised this stuff a long time ago.... computer hardware failures delayed it a bit. Now I'm playing catch up!

I freaking love it!  And you went to the trouble of locating and bumping up this old thread, thank you.  No worries about the delay.  It was totally worth the wait.
