getting error message when trying to open .riff

i am getting a hate screen from bill gates that says:

error occurred
The application has encountered a problem.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.
An exception was raised on the server: Access violation at address 004048B6 in module 'ComX.exe'. Read of address 000FAFE9.

they say they are sorry for the inconvenience, but i have not received a personal apology from microsoft yet. 

my operating system is windows(yuk) vista(yuk) 64bit(doubleyuk), and i am operating a hp touchsmart pc.  probably none of that was important or relevant, but i don't have that much to say

Same thing, but on 32 Bit XP.   It's not breaking the player or the riffing part.   *Shrug*  Just an error I guess.
