All I know is that I was expecting the world to end in 1999 A.D. when Lavos would emerge from the earth and begin draining it of all its energy in order to produce his genetically enhanced spawn to enslave the galaxy. Since that didn't happen, I don't know what to believe.

As the song was mentioned before, I pulled up "End of the World" by REM and played it as I watched the trailer with the sound lowered, looks a lot more fun this way!

Actually, that did happen; you just slept through it and the rest of us didn't have the heart to tell you.

I spent my during during Y2K sitting in the basement of our North building at work calling be asking them to ensure their SAP jobs ran without issue. Yeah, it sucked! Well, they did pay us $2500 to do this, but still.

Every trailer I see for this movie gets increasingly stupid. The latest one (as Sony puts them in front of ALL their movies, no matter how inappropriate) is set to a pop song.
I can smell Sony's flop sweat on this one.

I dont see why directors cannot get good special effects, good acting and a real plot in their movie. CGI alone does not cut it.
I am trying to think of recent movies that had all three and I can only come up with The Abyss.

That's more than I can come up with What about the Lord of the Rings movies? I'd suggest The Mummy....but I'm sure I'd get arguments about that.

There are good examples but I think most of them just get carried away with the technology and lose focus.
