I actually found out that one of the three motorcycles was NOT and Arcee. She was named Chromia,
but never referred to by name and looked identical to the Arcees. How did I find this out? I was bored
and wandered through the toy isle at my local store.

I think understand the movies you have to buy the toys.

That is just the most insane thing I've ever heard...figuring out a character's name in the movie by its action figure. That's some crack writing there.

I've seen the movie twice (both times with Rifftrax, I'm not stupid) and I have not heard the cycles called Arcee. Is it covered by a riff?

They are referred to a couple of times, but the only way you can catch it is with the subtitles on because it's in the background chatter. What I was wondering is why they were calling them twins when there were clearly three of them. So one of them actually had a different name . . . I still wanna know why they were even twins to begin with. It's a Bay movie, why even ask, right?

I don't think it's the writing. I think Bay and Hasbro have formed an unholy alliance. Bay provides movies that are
incredibly confusing and Hasbro fills all the plot holes in with the descriptions with their action figures. You can't understand
one without the other.

The reason is so they can be sold separately.

Well, since they evidently can change appearance at will (the Twins behind the screen), you never can know for sure which one you're looking at, do you?

Could they do that in the cartoon?  Or is this a Bay invention?

In the first episode of the old cartoon, they got rebuilt after a crash to be able to transform into Earth machines.  There was a device on the ship that took care of that.  Without that device, pretty sure they're stuck with whatever forms they have.

Yeah, that is what I remember from the show. In TF: The Movie, Unicron was able to transform Megatron and others by a morphing effect.

The very idea of morphing from one form to another entirely negates the need to transform at all. Seriously. Michael f$%#@ed up the TITLE DESCRIPTION!

Well then how are you EVER supposed to be able to tell them apart visually (even to each other) since what they were as a vehicle becomes part of their robot appearance - the doors of the truck cab on his chest, for instance.

Which would have been inanimate scrap metal. :p The G1 series would have been very short then.

You're trying to find logic, and all you'll find is an aneurysm.
The original cartoon was neat, but not really deep or thorough in its science.  Take that and MichaelBay-ify it, and, well...  Just let it go.  You'll only hurt yourself.

Maybe it was really "Arcee, Twins".  That would explain why there are three of them. Of course, this movie has so much fast talking that a pause for a comma just doesn't seem possible.

Am I the only one who only saw two twins? I mean, I realize I wasn't paying the hardest attention to the movie (I don't hate my brain that much), but I just remember two blithering stereotypical idiots. Not three.

...speaking of those particular bots, I mean.

Yeah....they were the two halves of the ice cream truck....

When they crashed in the chase in China there was only the two of them there - beating on each other.

They were referring to Arcee, the three motorcycles.

One thing I will at least have to give this movie credit for. It seemed like they used their wheels more in robot mode. Something I was actually (shockingly) impressed with in the first one when the one Decepticon on the highway used his wheels like roller blades. It has been a long time, but I don't remember them doing that in the cartoon. I thought it was one of the only creative things they did in the first one, and it looks like they upped that in the second.
