This was a GREAT iRiff guys..... highly recommended. The riffing was funny and full of energy. I like the fact that you picked a public domain movie and released it as a VOD. These kind of movies usually are not riffed anymore and it is very enjoyable to download the movie and riff in one package. I downloaded, converted it to MP4 (very easy) watched on my main TV via AppleTv and if one wanted, you could conver the MP4 to MPEG-2 and burn on a regular DVD.

The movie itself, despite the low budget, was kind of enjoyable. Like a low budget X-Files episode.

The other night I watched the MST3K episode featuring "The Crawling Eye" and while it pains me to say this to some degree DogKnob's version was better.  Audio/video wise it was infinitely better but even joke wise it was better.  Which really says something about the MST3K episode because I haven't found DogKnob very funny yet.

I don't know why I feel this needs expression but one of the jokes I came up with for the movie was during the scene when the crawling eye was reaching for the girl with its tentacle.  Probably around the time the guy picks her up to escape I would have said something like "Boy, if this were a Japanese movie this scene would have ended very differently."

Sorry, I was trying to post a reply to you and Mr. B on my own thread, and somehow it wound up here by mistake.  Hopefully, I've succeeded in deleting it, so visitors to your thread won't have to listen to my problems.  I'll try to check out THE CRAWLING EYE when I get a chance... or maybe we can do a trade and give each other reviews.  if I can ever get my own iRiff posted, that is!  Best of luck!

Wow, B. I thought your joke was more about Japanese monster movies, not films like Tokyo Decadence and In the Realm of the Senses. I am simultaneously impressed and concerned for you.

I am simultaneously impressed and concerned for you.

Yeah, that's how most people feel about me.  I don't remember which one it was but during a Rifftrax Kevin Murphy mentioned by name "Tentacle Hentia."  And once on "The Office" Dwight said how his favorite anime heroine was "also the victim of a monster rape."  I'm also suddenly reminded of "Evil Dead" in which a woman is raped by a tree with long, tentacle like branches.  So it's popped up in the culture a few times.  I think the joke came so naturally (well, besides the fact that I have such a sick mind) because the girl was so young and there was a tentacle.  Both of which are very common themes for the Japanese and often the two are featured together.  In other words, it's common for Japanese animated porn to feature very young girls getting raped by tentacles and I was reminded of that fact during the scene in question.  Not that I'm some kind of Hentia freak or anything.  It's just one of those billions of bits of trivial data I've accumulated in my brain and can't delete.  Upon seeing the two images together in that scene my twisted sense of humor instantly conjured up the joke.  I thought it would be one of those jokes that would be really rewarding for those who got it while being completely harmless to those who didn't.  I probably should have kept it to myself.

Nah dude. It was a good and clever reference. My brain works along similar lines in that I am a walking database of information that may or may not be useless. That might be why you don't get a lot of our humor. Plus the fact that our riff of Trollenberg is so completely unlike the "conventional" style of riffing.

Do yourself a big favor though. Read my review of OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies and then see it for God's sake. I included the poster in my review and it links to the film's Netflix page. If you are a Netflix member, you can watch the film streaming.
