If Weird Al wins, I dunno if I'll think it's awesome or feel cheated. :^)

If what you posted above is correct you forgot to start your tweet with "RT" that is a re-tweet and @rifftrax would receive your tweet. Without the RT they won't see your tweet unless they are following you.

I...don't think that's true. It's the @ that makes the difference, not the RT.

At least, I see plenty of responses from people I don't follow who don't say RT. And I generally retweet people by saying "(via @screenname)".

Does anyone has a definiative answer on if you can just hit the "reply to" button and reply with the "@" character leading the repsonse or do you need to insert a "RT" at the beginning.

I am wondering if the person receiving the response would see your reply if you did not put in the "RT" first (and they were not following you).    I tried to google the answer, but could not find anything.

Okay, went with it and I now have a Twitter account.  I am tainted.

@RoninFoxTrax

After the contest I'll likely only use it for updating about iRiffs.

There is a little button on the side that shows any @ replies to yourself (example: @omegarowsdower shows all replies with that typed, even if I'm not following them)

As for the ReTweet (RT) I'm going to venture a guess and say that its not as important as the "#rifftraxLive" hashtag as torgosPizza mentioned above
It'll work either way, really - we'll be using the search feature, so as long as you put "rifftrax" or better yet, #rifftraxLive (to weed out just regular replies) we'll find it. Smiley

As far as I know, when RT is typed it doesn't do anything special... aside from saying in 2 letters that you are quoting something else

When you type "RT" that means all your followers can see it too, whereas if you start a tweet with @rifftrax only those following rifftrax can see it.  For most people, twitter hides replies to those who you are not following.  Their @s to their friends don't show up in your stream unless you are mutual friends..  However, if a tweet with a @ leads with another letter or word (even "Hey, @rifftrax is giving away...") then your followers see it too.

That's the glory of the "RT @rifftrax" More people see it.  It has nothing to do with Rifftrax seeing it, but with sharing the information with others (the whole idea behind Twitter).  So, you'd retweet an announcement, but not necessarily a contest entry or a tech support question (unless otherwise instructed).

You can see your own @replies.  You can see all of those, even if you're not following the person. They don't show up in your stream, but they do show up in the @ area, like was said above.

I'm there with you on that. I can't use it on my phone (I have limited texts), so it's kinda useless for anything other than keeping up with Rifftrax.

We are going to search for the #rifftraxLive hashtag.  As long as that is there and you tell us where you're going to be, you're in the running.

We're also working on moving the site over to a new, superfast server. It's pretty awesome. Not sure if/when we can bring the forum and blog along with it - they might have to stay separate for now. We'll see.

That'll help a lot with the sample load time, I'm sure.

Well the samples come from a Flash media server, so it probably won't have any impact. Smiley

Well, I signed up for Twitter and I entered.  I think.  I might have accidentially sent a virus to NORAD's main computers.  I'm not sure.

Yeah, there's a lot of coded stuff in there. I'm sure you get used to it if you use it all the time.

I'm thinking Twitter was what Orwell was thinking of when he talked about Newspeak in 1984.

Yeah, and not only that but it's on CDNetworks, which is the 2nd largest media network in the world, next to Akamai. So - if you have trouble loading flash samples it's probably something related to your connection between you and them.

How fortuitous that this should come up now.  My iPod just broke.

Does Twitter always have so many spam followers popping up, or is it just because I started a new account?
