I posted one or two here before, but I think a brand new dedicated thread is called for.

Car Talk's puzzlers are a weekly feature.  I usually find them too difficult, but sometimes there's one I can figure out.  This week featured one of them, and it was fun to figure out.

Take theses words: bugles, unrest, grotto, letter, esteem.  Which word comes next? Explain.

There are two correct answers.
