OK, so I was basically given an emachines M5414 (Please don't laugh at it.  Or me) that had been left in a basement sitting in a puddle for who knows how long.  I've spent a grand total of $50 getting it to work.  It's fine for everything I do with it.  So I got the brilliant idea "Hey, widescreen, portable, let's make fun of some movies!"  But alas, there is no joy in Mudville.    Sad  First, here's the specs:

CPU:  AMD Sempron 2800+ Mobile Processor
Operating System:  Microsoft Windows XP Home SP3
Display:  15.4" Widescreen TFT LCD WXGA (1280 × 800 max. resolution)
Memory:  768MB DDR
Sound:  AC '97 Audio

And finally

Video:  SiS M760 Ultra 256 graphics

And there, I think is the problem.  Of course, emachines cannot be bothered to actually post a driver for the video chip in their own laptop, so I had to go  to SiS and get it from there.  It is from last year, July I believe.  I actually have my own copy of WinDVD installed, too.  However, when I try to watch any movie I get the “Rendering of Standard DVD Filters Failed” error, followed promptly by “Access violation at address 0042A582 in module 'RiffTrax.exe'. Read of address 00000008”, whereupon I must start the lovely task manager and kill the rifftrax process to make it go away.  I’ve played the same movie on an Intel board with the Atom processor and its’ video chip with no problems.  I have a feeling it’s this SiS chip, but can’t swear 100% to that.  If anyone has any other suggestions (other than “Get a different computer”), I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks muchly.

I payed just shy of $50 for it.  It sat in a basement for an unknown period of time in a small puddle, so I got it for free and spent $25 on a used LCD and about $25 on a refurbished motherboard.  If you find one in good shape, you're probably looking at around $200, but I wouldn't suggest one for using the RiffTrax Player.  Everything else I'm doing is working fine.

Yeah I imagine the player probably requires heftier resources. I think there were minimum requirements on the player's download page but I could be wrong.
