Player freezing before main menu (Iron Man)

I am trying to get Iron Man to work on the player.  initially it would throw an APPCRASH once it loaded to 100% and began spinning up the DVD, got new codecs to fix that. now it will play the very first part of the DVD, the Paramount DVD logo, and then stop responding and just start gobbling up memory at about a MB a second-ish. I let it just sit there for a few minutes and it got up to at least 600 MB and still counting, then I killed the process.  could be a memory leak? not sure.
