DVD plays but riff doesn't

Heya,
  Been gone for a while, but I'm back and buying stuff again.  However, I'm not able to get the rifftrax player working as intended


DVD is Legend Films Reefer Madness
I am able (finally) to get the player to play the DVD.  But the 'play' button remains grayed out.  If I click on the 'play' link in the DVD menu, the dvd plays but the riff itself never starts or synchs. 
  If I FF or RR, I see a 'buffering' but the 'riff'' time stamp never updates
  If I click the 'intro', the rifftrax starts as if I was playing the MP3, but it never automatically snychs up.
  The Riff audio on/off and audio ducking buttons are clickable, but don't seem to cause the riffers to be heard.

Hardware specs
XP SP 2
Laptop: Dell Vostro 1500
Updated codec from FAQ page
2 gigs ram
Video card: GEforce 8600m gt
Sigmatel onboard audio

I seem to remember noticing on at least one of the legend dvd riffs that the riff would play for the color version but not the black and white.  No idea if that relates to you here, just tossing it out there.

  I was going with the colorized version but, just in case, I'll try the B/W version of Reefer Madness tonight.
