Quote
ANDY RICHTER CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE was touted as "the funniest new sitcom of the spring" (2002) by TIME magazine and declared by US Magazine to have "scaled new heights." Set in Chicago, the half hour comedy chronicles the day to day happenings of Andy Richter, an aspiring short story writer working for a large corporation writing "how to" manuals. Andy is constantly thinking about possibilities and how every moment in life could just as easily go another way. Stars: Andy Richter, Paget Brewster, Irene Molloy, Jonathan Slavin, James Patrick Stuart

After more than seven years writing and co-hosting Late Night with Conan O'Brien, sidekick Andy Richter moved to the forefront in 2002 with the first television series he starred in, Fox Network's Andy Richter Controls the Universe. It ran over the course of two seasons, and while the mass ratings weren't there for the broadcasts, the series has developed a very devoted following of fans who have passionately wanted a DVD release for the program. We've got great news for all of you this morning!

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that Andy Richter Controls the Universe - The Complete Series is coming out on March 24th. The 417-minute collection of 19 episodes will be presented in full screen video, with English - Stereo audio and closed captioning for the hearing impaired. Pricing and package art aren't available yet, but stay tuned.

Guest stars during the show's run include Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men), Erik Estrada (CHiPs), Molly Sims (Las Vegas), Conan O'Brien (Late Night with Conan O'Brien), Rose Marie (The Dick Van Dyke Show), Charles Robinson (Night Court) and June Lockhart (Lost in Space, Lassie, Petticoat Junction). Don't miss them!

This made my day.

FINALLY!!!!!!!   Grin

My reaction, too.

Now if only the original Batman series would be released, my collection would be complete.

Pretty excellent news indeed.

I'm looking forward to seeing all the eps I missed first time (and from the press release, there'll be a lot).

Since I hate cable television and never watch it, I set a daily DVD schedule for certain days; Sundays, for example, are my britcom night (currently cycling through Python, Red Dwarf, Coupling, and The Thin Blue Line).  When I get through one series I start another before starting it over.

I think I'll have to do "cancellation theater" for some night. Have Andy Richter, Greg the Bunny, Tick, etc.

As little I can remember about this show, they might as well be releasing "Pinwheel."

It's a little known fact that all shows are released solely for bratpop to enjoy. This one obviously failed.  The release is now canceled.

My point was that it's been so long I can barely remember enough about the show to make me want to buy it. They probably lost a good share of money waiting till 200-bloody-9 to put this out. What's next, Push, Nevada?

I think that might have been better to type first. Rational instead of just pissy.

I dunno why they've decided to do it now; maybe they'll use some other Andy Richter thing (what else does he do now?) to plug it.

Alternatively, they might have just head a break in their schedule.  The 1970s TV show "Quark" got a DVD release last year, for no discernible reason.

Quark got a DVD release because it was created by the same guy that made Get Smart. Since the Get Smart movie came out, there's apparently been more of an interest in stuff related to that series.

I loved the show, but I find it a bit depressing watching old shows that got cancelled after one season. The least they could do is have a grizzled, drunken, homeless Andy Richter do a profanity-laden commentary, mostly about how Fox sucks and can go to hell.

I know what you mean, but there are some great one-season shows--I really liked the Lone Gunmen, and I think if you don't like Kolchak you have no soul.
