Some of the music cuts bother me in the SE--the trip into Mos Eisley to accomodate the new effects uses music from the Trash Compactor sequence, if memory serves.  I agree it looks nice, but I think a lot of the stuff is kinda unnecessary, and a bit of a nostalgia-killer.  So I'd rather see the originals cleaned up and with a nice transfer, untouched.

I agree completely. It was nice seeing things cleaned up... it just seems like the pacing of the movie has issues with the remastered version. The extra stuff really was not needed. I really didn't see it adding anything to the movie. The other problem is the extra little creatures doing stupid crap in the background that he adds. It really kills the mood of the movie to see a jawa dangling and screaming in the background. It's just excessive and unneeded. Lucas crossed the line from something being quirky-fun to groan-stupid at times.

Man, I wouldn't want to be Lucas for all the money in the world.

Gifthorse. That's all I'm going to say from now on regarding Lucas-hate. GIFT-FUCKING-HORSE. The only thing actually removed from the trilogy was a few seconds of guards in the Death Star getting blasts to the chest. Everything else was a very generous, expensive addition.

And you really want Lucas to make an Unspecial Edition for all the fans who swear blind that they will never buy anything from Lucas ever again? He'd have to be as retarded as you say!

I wouldn't mind being Lucas. Then I could make a million dollars off of a movie consisting of nothing but digitally enhanced farts... and they'd consider me a genius.

You just wait bratpop, one day after the star wars funds starts to run dry, Lucas will re-release the old movies in anamorphic widescreen and call it the "Classic Remastered Edition". I think you are underestimating the power that Lucas has in milking something for every penny it is worth. He's not so much a gifthorse, as he is more of a good salesman. Who else could make so many of us waste our money on the same movie for such a long time and still make us want more.  It's all an evil plan. Give us something we would almost be 100% happy with so that we will buy the next "improvement" he creates. Pure Genius.

Okay wiseguy, if he's such a genius, why did he make the prequels? He probably couldn't even sell the Phantom Edit.

Check this out http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=starwars.htm

Apparently he has amassed $924,317,558 worldwide on the phantom edit. Pretty good for a jar-binks movie. Episode 2 made $649,398,328 and episode 3 made $848,999,005. So Episode 1 was in fact the movie that made the most of the three.

To add to this... the original star wars has made $775,398,007 in its lifetime. The proof is in the pudding.

Not quite true. I'm actually on your side on this one, and I rather enjoyed the Special Editions too, and even enjoyed me some Prequel (Though I've learned not to speak up about it much in these parts.) but there WERE 2 significant and somewhat lamentable things removed from the trilogy: Lapti Nek and Yub Nub.  They were 2 of my favorite examples of the Star Wars take on alien music. I see WHY he replaced the Ewok Celebration with a galaxy-wide montage, and I GUESS I see why he wanted to add a little something to the dance in Jabba's palace, but those two songs are unfortunate victims.

I DID enjoy the cleaned-up X-Wings, the establishing shot of Mos Eisley, the extra Wampa footage, and the new Death Star explosions, though. :^)
