Hello,

I'm having a problem with the rifftrax player. It tells me that the Service is Unavailable, so I click on the Update Now button. That takes me to Rifftrax update, I go through the whole process to update to the latest version, I click on finish, the player tries to start, and I get the same Service Unavailable message, and I'm asked to do the whole process again! What's going on?

Thanks.

Exact same problem here.

EDIT:  Just found another topic, and it seems this is a first Friday of the month thing.

To the OP, disconnecting from the internet is a means to get past what seems to be a once a month problem.

It happened to me on the first Sat of the month (today).

THIS is why you don't create an app that auto-updates without having an option to turn auto-update off!

duhhh.....seems someone (namely me) mentioned this before.  Naturally the suggestion wasn't well-received.  By the way, disconnecting from the internet simply causes the player to not load up at all for me.

Good job, oh masterful creator of the Rifftrax Player, for creating a truly idiotic *ahem* feature.  At the very least, you design the player so that it notifies you of an update after it's up and running properly...leaving the user to decide when to update.

I can't believe someone needs to be told this....

P.S.  It's still twitchy with multiple monitors, might want to work on THAT too.

UPDATE:  Having cable internet and disconnecting at the modem box didn't work for me.  After a little thought I blocked the player completely at my firewall and THAT did the trick.  At least I can watch trax now.  Until the doofi in charge of player development stop being silly about it, I think I'll just leave the player blocked until I actually have a problem watching a riff and THEN attempt to let it update.

Having the same problem right now...

The Rifftrax player is great when it works, but it is one of the most unreliable programs I have ever encountered . . . and I use Microsoft products.

Same problem here, after fumbling around I found this thread and shut down my modem.  I worked fine after that and my wife and I enjoyed Pirates of the Caribbean.

The player is labeled Beta and problems should be expected.  I glad the damn thing exists.

I emailed the person who is in contact with the developer.  I suggested that shutting off the required updates might be something they could look into.  I'm not sure when he'll get a chance to look at the problem, but I think this has fixed itself in the past...More updates on Monday probably, I apologize for the irritation this has caused.
