One thing I wanted to add about Monster Squad (the movie itself, not the iRiff for it).  I like how in the initial segment with Van Helsing, everyone seems to be talking and understanding English, except for the girl who is brought in to speak in german.  Back "100 years ago", was Van Helsing chasing Dracula through somewhere in the US?

Also, why does the magic spell HAVE to be spoken in German?  Something about the German language is particularly good for banishing evil?

I think it's awfully sporting of Good(tm) to become an easily-beatable force every 100 years, just to give Evil(tm) a shot at running things.  Because, you know, there was no evil in the world between the 1880's and the 1980's...

Actually I'm pretty sure German is good for envoking evil, not banishing it.

We're glad you liked the riff but as far as the German aspect fo the spell.  It was always my thought that the screenwriters came up with the Scary German Guy character and then put some kind of german spell crap in to justify him even existing in this movie AT ALL!   The fact that the girl is the only one speaking german in the beginning didn't stick out till you mentioned it but now I can see why the Charleton Heston look-a-like was screaming at her - She can't understand you!

After the Plan 9 Encore, Borg48 and I decided to watch a couple iRiffs. The first one we watched was J.C. Walsh's Alone in the Dark. I thought there might have been one too many Taco Bell jokes, but other than that it was really good. We'll have to check out his others sometime. We followed that up with Rooster Riffs' X-Files: Ice. It was pretty funny. One of the guest stars in that episode is a regular on Desperate Housewives and they made several jokes about that. Too bad I don't watch that show or I probably would have found those comments funnier. I didn't think they were quite as consistent as J.C. Walsh, but it was definitely worth the 75 cents and made the episode much more entertaining. Too bad they seem to have indefinitely disappeared from the iRiffing scene. I think we would both like to see them do more X-Files episodes.

I found out at the last minute, so I went down there with flyers in hand. I live in San Diego, so I met torgosPizza. Nice guy. Had a ball at the show. There is something about watching a riff with a bunch of people that makes it somehow funnier, although Plan 9 is pretty funny by itself. I hope I didn't offend by dropping a few riffs of my own in when nothing else was happening... I got some laughs.

I just finished watching pezdrake's "Atomic Treatment: Tippy Our Town Dog."  The short itself is really stupid and pointless.  Sometimes with the shorts I can at least see what they were going for and sometimes their message really isn't that bad.  It's just that the execution is so terrible.  With this short, I had no idea what the hell they were going for.  It's almost as bad as "Kitty Cleans Up."

Well pezdrake did an excellent job poking fun at this awful short and I actually laughed out loud several times.  I still feel that he is one of the best, if not THE best, iriff writers around and his preformance and audio quality is getting better all the time.  Buy it, buy it now and remember to rate.

Saw the whole thing.  It takes some time getting getting the volume equalized, but you'll get it.  No sync problems.  And very damn funny too!    Clap clap!

Just noticed this on my iRiffs page .... SethPaul, of the One Man Band iRiffs, watched my Riff of Yor, Hunter from the Future, and this is what he said:

Good fun, with some caveats...
Submitted by SethPaul on 1 October 2009 - 4:12pm.

Let me get this out the of way first...the jokes are good. Some of them REALLY good. Clever running gags (especially the final act with the resistance fighters dressed like Santa's elves), and almost every goofy aspect of the movie that could be commented upon is commented upon.

As David mentioned, though, it's clear that there's splicing going on; not just by the sound quality, but the sheer density of gags. While few (if any) commit the sin of "important dialogue overrun," there's barely a moment of silence to enjoy some of the jokes before the next one comes in. If there were multiple riffers, this may not be such a problem (especially since some of the jokes are tailor-made for two people to do), but from a solo riffer, some of them don't work as well. Another matter is the delivery style; your voice lends itself to the sort of laidback, mellow riffing one used to hear from Joel, but the written material is definitely more reminiscent of the faster, punchier delivery from later MST3K, and as such you get more jokes running together simply because your delivery doesn't allow time for them to all fit. It's sort of a strange critique to give: your delivery is enjoyable, and your jokes are enjoyable, and they work, but occasionally the two different styles mismatch.

It is still pretty damn funny, though, and I'd love to see what you do next.

I said a similar thing about your style after listening to THEM! I think, you start off very laid back and conversational and then speed up as the pace of the movie does.  I did find it slightly jarring at about the time the first ant shows up where you changed gears but that was more an observation than a complaint, I'm sure timing and pace is of the harder things to set up perfectly.

Borg48 recommended that I watch Team Swizzlebeef's "What Makes a Good Party?" Checked it out and found it very funny. I'll have to see "Better Use of Leisure Time" later. It looks like their only other riff.  Undecided Hope to see more from them sometime. By the way if you watch their stuff, make sure you watch it in the VLC Media Player. I tried to get it to work in Windows Media Player and I couldn't get any sound.

Their Leisure Time iRiff is really funny too.  I highly recommend them.

Aww... thanks, guys - Team Swizzlebeef has just booked studio time to record our next iriff, which will see us breaking the 10 minute mark for the first time.

I guess we should probably start writing it now.

Thanks for the heads up on the riff not working in WMP - I'll swear at it for a few hours and see if that helps.
