The "theme song" is shit, obviously, but with the bang you're getting for your buck (er, $0?), it makes sense not to waste time on a one minute and a half opening crawl.

It was just a long, shallow TV episode.
That's exactly right. Not in an opinionated way, but like in an indisputably factual way. It was more or less three expanded episodes of the show. Possibly one of the biggest mistakes since uh, WWII. I would have said that movie killed the series if they didn't have a set in stone five year contract. Even if they get cancelled somehow, they'll probably sell it to someone else, or put it online, or beam it into people's heads. I'm just glad I can watch and enjoy it even if no one else ever does. But man, that movie idea. Horrible. You can't show a TV pilot in a movie theater, no matter how good it looks. Case in point, Mulholland Drive was shit. I hated that movie. But would have loved it as a series, even without the lesbian sex.

Thus far, the only episode I've been able to catch is the most recent one.  It focuses on the Clonetroopers, features the new and definitely non-comedic Battledroid Commandos, and has some pretty borderline violent content.  I liked it a lot; you might want to check it out.

And, for the record, I liked the movie, too.

I watched ep. 1 the other night.

I liked it, actually.  Moreso in its quiet moments than in the "action-packed" ones--my favorite part was  Yoda asking the Clones to take their helmets off, and making the crutch for Thire.

Commando droids are the awesome.

Oh, that was a crutch? I NEVER got that.

Well, I sat down and actually watched these.  To my shock, I really enjoyed them--the glimpses of the rest of the SW universe were great.   I might be the only SW fan who doesn't give a rat's fat ass about Jedi, and they've been surprisingly lacking in this show.

The weakest of the bunch, in fact, was the episode which featured the main characters most prominently, when Our Heroes go to save Padme from Grievous on the Malevolence.  I found it exceptionally dull.

On the other hand, both the escape-pod episode and the one with the troopers on the listening post were great.  More like that, please.

PS: Theme music still sucks balls.

I like everything about this show so far.  INCLUDING the music.  The first episode had a really stirring rendition of Yoda's theme, played on what sounded like pan flute, that was really cool.  And the space battle in the third episode... I mean... wow.  It was better than the space battles in the prequels.  I'd say it's probably like looking at what goes on inside Michael A. Stackpole's head.

Er, I'm guessing you didn't see this week's episode before saying that. The music was terrible. It was like something from a Vin Diesel movie. I don't mind characters listening to radio stations, but this was a failed experiment. DON'T EVER DO IT AGAIN.

Also - sick of the two and three-parters.

I like the multiple-parters, but yes, the music this last week was atrocious.  Stay away from "cool rockin' techno" please.

And the music I was referring to earlier was the main theme, which still licks hutt taint.

I didn't love the Trandoshan--aren't these things like 8 feet tall? ANd didn't Anakin pronounce it weird?

They wanted to show that not everyone in a species is the same. Racist.

At the same time, they made him another racist European/Middle Eastern merchant.

So.... uh.

The music was extra terrible in this last episode.  I thought for a second that it was coming from the Alien's radio, but it never stopped playing so it must have been the Alien's theme......just garbage.  This show is really hit and miss.  Sometimes it is exactly what I want, and other times it is as horrible as the Prequels.

Yeah. I'd say "Rookies" was probably the best one so far.  I've said it before, but I don't want to see "main characters" any more.  Give us more of the secondary guys.

Hopefully they kill off Anakin, and then towards the end of the series run they explain how the whole cartoon was a dream and then wake you up to the horror that Anakin is not dead so that the continuity of the movies stays intact.
