CLUE: Online - The Rules, Tips & Tricks
The PlotRegardless of what version you are playing, the facts are always the same.
Mr. Boddy has been found murdered, and it's up to you to determine the answers to these three questions:
Who done it? Where? And with What Weapon?
The BasicsThere are (6) Six Characters:
Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock and Professor Plum. There are (6) Six Weapons:
A Knife, Candlestick, Revolver, Rope, Lead Pipe, and a Wrench. There are (9) Nine Rooms:
The Hall, Lounge, Dining Room, Kitchen, Ballroom, Conservatory, Billiard Room, Library and The Study. There is also (1) One Game Grid, (1) One Case File and optional Notepads for the players.
Before The GameThe Host will randomly selected (1) One Character, (1) One Room, and (1) One Weapon.
- This will be The Case File, which holds the answers to the questions: Who? Where? And with What Weapon?
- During the course of the game, no one will know these answers except for The Host.
The remaining Characters, Rooms, and Weapons will be distributed randomly, one at a time, to the remaining players beginning with Miss Scarlet.
- Each player will receive their evidence from The Host via Private Message.
- Keep this evidence secret, and do not share it with the other players.
- Some players may receive more evidence than others depending on the total number of players.
Moving Around The MansionMiss Scarlet always begins, followed by Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock and Professor Plum.
- Your turn consists of nine moves. Certain actions may require a different amount of moves.
- You may move horizontally or vertically, forward or backward, but not diagonally.
- You may change directions as many times as you wish. You may not, however, enter the same square twice on the same turn.
- You may not enter or land on a square that is already occupied by another player.
Secret PassagesThe Rooms in opposite corners of the game grid are connected by Secret Passages.
If you are in one of these Rooms
at the start of your turn, you may, if you wish, use a Secret Passage.
- Using a Secret Passage requires three moves.
RoomsYou may enter or leave a Room either by moving through a door, or by moving through a Secret Passage.
- You may not enter through a door that is blocked by another player.
- As soon as you enter a Room, you may stop moving. It doesn't matter if you still have more moves left than you needed to enter.
- You may not re-enter the same Room on a single turn.
- It is possible for opponents to block any and all doors and trap you in a Room. If this happens, you must wait for someone to move and unblock a door so that you can leave!
Announcing Your MovesSo that the other players can keep track of your movements, you must announce each of your moves in the game thread. This is done by naming the location on the grid where you began, and the location on the grid where you ended your move. If you used a Secret Passage or ended your move by entering a Room, you must also announce this in the game thread. If you have enough moves left after entering a Room, you may also use your turn to make a Suggestion.
Making A SuggestionAs soon as you enter a Room, you may be able to make a Suggestion. By making Suggestions throughout the game, you try to determine - by process of elimination - what evidence is contained in
The Case File.
- A Suggestion requires three moves.
- Once you make a Suggestion your turn will end, regardless of how many moves you have left, unless the other players are unable to disprove your Suggestion and you wish to make an Accusation.
- You must be in the Room that is part of your Suggestion.
- Your Suggestion must contain (1) One Character, (1) One Weapon, and (1) One Room.
- If your character is called into a Room during a Suggestion, this is where you will begin your next turn.
- You may suggest your own character, or non-playing characters, as part of your Suggestion.
- You must post your Suggestion in the game thread as part of your move for that turn.
Disproving A SuggestionAfter you have posted your Suggestion in the game thread, the next player will attempt to disprove it. This player consults the evidence that was provided to them by
The Host before the game. If any of the items in your Suggestion are on their list, they will announce that they can disprove your Suggestion in the game thread. That player will then select just
one piece of evidence to share with you via Private Message.
- Only the next player may disprove a Suggestion, unless they pass. Do not accidentally give away information.
- Only share (1) One piece of evidence with any player at a time.
- Please send a copy of every Private Message to The Host for verification.
- Withholding evidence is grounds for disqualification.
If the next player is unable to provide any evidence to disprove your Suggestion, then they will announce that they must pass in the game thread. At that point the chance to disprove your Suggestion passes, in turn, to the next player.
For Example: If Mrs. White makes a Suggestion, then Mr. Green will have the first opportunity to disprove it. If he can disprove her Suggestion, he will announce this to all the other players in the game thread. Then he will send a Private Message to Mrs. White containing one piece of information. If he can not disprove Mrs. White's Suggestion, he will pass to Mrs. Peacock. As soon as another player shares any evidence with you, it is proof that this evidence is not part of
The Case File, and your turn is over. If no other player is able to prove your Suggestion false, you may either end your turn or make an Accusation now.
Making An AccusationWhen you think that you have figured out the three pieces of evidence contained within
The Case File, you may, on your turn, make an Accusation.
In the game thread you must announce your Accusation by saying, "
I accuse (Character) of committing the murder in the (Room) with the (Weapon)!"
- You can only make one Accusation during a game.
- Unlike a Suggestion, you may be in any Room when you make an Accusation.
If any player makes an Accusation all game play will stop. At this point The Host will consult
The Case File, and announce to all the players in the game thread whether your Accusation is true... or false.
A False AccusationIf any of the evidence that you named in your Accusation is not a part of
The Case File, you may make no further moves in the game, and therefore can not win. However, you do remain involved in the investigation by continuing to prove other player's Suggestions false.
- Other players may continue to move you into Rooms where they make Suggestions.
- If you are blocking a door, your Character will be moved into that Room so that other players may enter.
Winning The GameYou win the game if your Accusation is completely correct - that is, if you named all three pieces of evidence contained in
The Case File. When this happens, The Host will announce the end of the game, present all the evidence from
The Case File, and announce a winner!
