This announcement of Cinester Theater's next project will also give me a chance to quickly poll the audience a little bit. See, Keith wanted to do "The Nightmare Before Christmas" as our Halloween riff, but I argued that that's a Christmas movie, not a Halloween movie. He disagreed, and eventually we decided to split the difference and release it in November instead.
So up next is "The Nightmare Before Christmas"... but what do you think? Is that a Halloween movie? Or a Christmas movie?
It's both. We see Halloween at the beginning and Christmas at the end. |

Although there are obviously a lot of Halloween moments, the majority of the film is focused on Christmas. I'd say it's a Christmas movie with a large amount of Halloween flavor mixed in. A November release would be very appropriate. |

I think Nightmare Before Christmas, for some reason, works best AS a November movie...even though it's a mix of Christmas and Halloween, it somehow just feels right fitting in around Thanksgiving...not many movies can do that, but that one does. Maybe it's because the movie takes place between the two, beginning as Halloween ends and ending on Christmas Eve.

I'll check it out either way. I had a hard time getting into that movie. I tried a few times to sit through it, and finally was successful about a year ago. A good riffing might help me get some more enjoyment out of the movie.
To answer your question, years of Christmas creep has caused the Christmas season to really pretty much start November 1st. Sure, that means that by December 25, we've all had about as much peace, joy, and good will as we can stomach and can't wait to resume conflict, misery, and animosity, BUT, it does mean that you can really release this riff anytime between this Sunday and Christmas and have it be perfectly appropriate.

I just saw some of Batman Returns on ABC family and all I can think of now is how the hell has this not been riffed earlier? I'm tempted to do that one as well but I feel such ... a film deserves other people involved. So I'll try to get my friend in on it.

Yeah, none of the Batman movies are immune to riffing.Yeah, everyone seems to suck Christopher Nolan's dick for making Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and I DID like both movies, but still, there's room for heckling.
It also means every damned superhero movie for the next DECADE will now feature dark, brooding protagonists who talk like Solid Snake. It'll be so adorable to watch Toby Maguire try to do that in the next Spider-man... a movie I'll go see because I *HAVE* to know how they'll manage to outsuck the last movie. The only thing I can imagine is Peter Parker will have to sing or something. Something like that musical number in the special edition of Jedi that made us all wince and say "Ow, my childhood!"
Hmm, nice, I stuck it to Batman, Spider-man, and Lucas all in one paragraph. Now if I could just throw in some abuse toward Micheal Bay too... um... he suck movie make!

Maybe he'll doing a brooding rendition of Little Miss Muffet. Yeah, I find that most super hero movies are fairly riffable... even the good ones. I almost think we need a group that riffs exclusively Superhero movies and call it Super Riffs. |

Commando is so riffable, but enjoyable so the movie carries some of the load for you. |

Last night, we had a mega-recording session. We ran through ALL of "Congo"... which means next session will be refinement... which means this sucka's gonna be available very VERY soon. All the artwork, promo, and synch lines are all done. Things have certainly gone 2x as fast as "Lost In Space" but I was surprised at how many issues we still had trouble with (80% of 'em technical). Really lookin' forward to having two iriffs under our belts.
No news on the short. Haven't heard anything from torgos in a couple weeks. If ya wanna see it uploaded, ask him. The problem's on their end so it's completely outta my hands now.

Wow! You guys work fast! Good news for us though. Sometimes we get in the zone and are able to crank them out pretty quickly. Other times, we can't get our schedules to gel and go two weeks without working on them at all. If you add up the actual hours we put into each riff, though, we generally get them completed pretty fast. Part of it is that this movie is pretty short, though (about 75 minutes long). |
