Insert 25 cents to play!

« on: August 21, 2008, 09:25:28 AM »

Have you finally conquered a game that's been tormenting you for days? Weeks? Years? Here's your gloating grounds. Brag about your latest victories here!

I just took Dr. Wily out in Mega Man 1 for the first time in my life. The ending doesn't begin to make up for the mental anguish this game has dished out to me over the years, but the feeling of accomplishment might be. :^)

But I'm not through being punished! There are 7 more of these things right now!

Dead Space (Xbox 360) - Took me about 11 hours on the dot to beat. Had a lot of fun playing through it.

Mirror's Edge (Playstation 3) - A very fun rental. Took about 7 hours to get through. It's very difficult even on the normal setting, but it's extremely rewarding if you know how to play it and take your time on the parts where you're just wondering what you need to do (which might happen a lot).

CastleVania:  Man, that was a weird ending.  What's with the messed up maid up character credits.

Whhoooo!!!  I just beat LittleBigPlanet!!!

Well, not that big of an accomplishment really, it's fairly easy to buzz through the story levels in this game quickly.  But there's still some replayability, I can still go back to try to get the switch triggers I missed, as well as try to get through some of the 2 player sections in some of the levels.

Well, I just beat Spider-Man: Friend or Foe.  Frankly, it's not a great achievement, as the game's pretty simple.  But getting the last achievement for the 1000 points took a little time.  Upgrading all the characters means having to repeat the final boss battle probably 7 or 8 times.  At least the level's short.

Mega Man 2 a couple of weeks ago.  Was my first Mega Man game and the last two Willy stages gave me hell for the last couple of years.

It's funny you say that, because I spend a lot of time at work playing Spider Solitaire, especially when I'm on a conference call. Just this week, I got my best score ever during my weekly sales call, cleared the board in 109 moves (which, if you know anything about Spider Solitaire, is absolutely insane - there are 104 cards in the deck). It felt something akin to getting a royal flush, the deck just rolled out perfectly.

Also, last night, I finally beat GTA4 on the "bad" ending, the one where you have to have the boat chase and helicopter chase, not the one where you chase the boat in the motorcycle and then chase the boat in the helicopter. The helicopter chase was WAY harder for me than the other mission, so even though in all honesty this is the mission path I had originally taken, I had to double back and beat the "easier" ending, because I just couldn't pass the last mission. So it's neat to see the ending from the other perspective. Though frankly, both endings are kind of a kick in the nuts regardless. Not exactly a happy ending for Niko... poor bastard.

Sittin' here at home, waiting for the family to arrive for thanksgiving, and I just beat Mirror's Edge...and got the "Test Of Faith" trophy!  (beat the game without killing an enemy with a gun)

I showed my wife as the trophy popped up on-screen, and she kinda shrugged and was like, "...oh."

Anyway, the story is pretty weak in the game, but they shouldn't have made those cut scenes anime.  It should have stayed in first person like some of the other cut scenes do, or at the very least stayed as in-game graphics.  The anime sections just didn't meld with the rest of the game.

Aha! I just finished off Lego Batman.  Geez, what a trudge.  It might be me and my sliding interest in the Lego games, but I didn't enjoy this half as much as Lego Star Wars.  Getting to 100% takes a long ass time, too.

Just beat Tomb Raider Underworld.  It was a typical Tomb Raider game, in that there were some shoddy controls and camera issues, and the plot made absolutely no sense at all.  A couple of frustrating gameplay elements overshadowed the decent puzzles it contained.  The new element of "adrenaline" fueled slo-mo kill shots they introduced was really lame, and I never used it, not once.  Overall, a disappointment, especially when compared to marked improvements in the genre, like Uncharted.

I finally beat Elite Beat Agents. It was ridiculously difficult, but I was kind of hoping to unlock a new difficulty level anyway.  Undecided

Assassin's Creed for the PC.

Interesting enough game, even if the story picked you up and stuck your shoes directly into a big steaming pile of "wait for Assassin's Creed 2" at the end.

About two or three months passed between play sessions, which led me to forget some of the play mechanics. Like the ability to block the attacks of enemies. After banging my head against the wall for hours on a single level... I finally realized why I was getting my ass handed to me. After that, I finished things up in about 30 minutes. Doh!
